Reflecting on a fantastic event for Metamaterials Innovation
09/12/2025
As 2025 draws to a close, the Metamaterials Innovation Hub (MIH) had the privilege of participating in the UK Metamaterials Network Showcase—a pivotal event that brought together industry leaders, researchers, and innovators to explore the transformative potential of metamaterials.
The showcase was more than just a networking opportunity; it was a celebration of collaboration and progress. Our team engaged in dynamic discussions with partners old and new, reinforcing the critical role metamaterials will play in shaping future technologies across sectors.
A Spotlight on MIH
One of the days many presentations was a talk delivered by QinetiQ’s Victoria Carter, who shared insights into the mission and capabilities of the Metamaterials Innovation Hub. Her talk emphasized how MIH is driving innovation, fostering partnerships, and supporting businesses in leveraging metamaterials for real-world applications.
Recognition at the Highest Level
We were honoured to welcome two Members of Parliament during the event, Exeter MP Steve Race and Torbay MP Steve Darling. Their visit underscored the growing recognition of metamaterials as a strategic technology for the UK’s industrial future. Their engagement confirmed that metamaterials are not just a scientific curiosity—they are a cornerstone for next-generation solutions in defence, aerospace, telecommunications, and beyond.
Looking Ahead to 2026
The energy and enthusiasm at the showcase have set the tone for an exciting year ahead. At MIH, we remain committed to pushing boundaries, accelerating innovation, and enabling businesses to harness the full potential of metamaterials.
